I just posted an update for paid subscribers for Eldair and Temerity will be getting an update here next week. I will be keeping pages locked a bit longer for paid subscribers so it may take a month or two for free subscribers to start seeing these updates.

As I’m working on posting comic updates, I’m curious to how people would like to get updates for comic pages. When I first started doing webcomics, I posted one page per update once a week. This was how webcomics originally ran in the past, but with Webtoons, many people now prefer less-frequent updates that have more content. So I wanted to throw this little poll out here, how would you prefer to get comic updates?

(Please note that this update schedule of an average of 1 page a week is the goal, and sometimes I can hit that goal, and sometimes I can’t.)

Also, it’s been about a year since I left Webtoons. Personally, I haven’t missed Webtoons much. However, it really is about you, the readers. So I’d love to pose the question: Have you enjoyed being on Substack and getting comic updates this way? Or would you prefer me to return to posting on Webtoons? I think if there is enough interest in me returning to Webtoons I’ll consider it.

I’m still hopeful that I can find or build a better platform to host my comic archive in the future. Right now, Substack works well enough for me but I’m not on the reader’s side of things so I want to make sure it’s actually working for you. So if you have any feedback on the matter, please let me know!

Project Updates:

Temerity:

The crowdfunding campaign to get Temerity #4 is completed and I’m finishing up final edits before I send it to the printers. I also just finished storyboards for Temerity #6 and got it into the artists. I think this chapter turned out great!

Eldair

I’m nearly completed with chapter 26 and then I’m staring at a great mess of scripts that need some serious refinement. I’m guessing that once I finish this chapter I’ll have to take a month or two to rework the storyline and several character arcs before I feel comfortable continuing drawing pages.

This refinement is a huge process because I’m trying to lay the foundation for many important events that happen later in the story. And my current storyline and drafts don’t set those things up very well. Basically, I need to make sure I know how the story ENDS and have all the character arcs figured out well enough so I can set them up for success. It’s a lot of work! Eldair has a lot of characters and I want to make sure I do them all justice and the payoff is good. I think the reason it’s taken so long to complete chapter 26, is I know that where I’m currently headed isn’t quite right and needs a LOT of fixing.

I’m honestly looking forward to taking time to do some world-building and plot development. But it’ll take a lot of time. So once this chapter is completed, you can expect a sizeable hiatus as I figure this all out.

Zelda’s Lullaby

Yes, Zelda’s Lullaby is still on my to-do list. I even drew a handful of pages these last couple of months. However, I don’t want to start posting pages again until I have a sizeable backlog and I know I can handle updating regularly. I don’t want to post 5 pages and then drop off for another year. But it’s constantly simmering in the background waiting for the right moment to take off again.

Anyways, all this to say that I’m slowly chipping away at things in the background and I’m honestly excited for ALL of it! All these things take time, so thank you for your patience! I hope you all have a beautiful and wonderful April!

When the original artist of Temerity had to leave the project, it felt like the end. But Temerity refused to die, and now, for issue #4: Blitz Station, Chad Hardin is returning to do what he does best: covers that stop you in your tracks.

But when your super-soldier doesn’t understand why you can’t change clothes in public, and your captain is secretly building a list of buyers to sell him off to pay off an enormous debt, “simple” was never really on the table.

With Yamamoto’s elite enforcers arriving on station and a three-day deadline closing in, the Temerity crew must be both brilliant and quick-witted to get out of this alive.

This issue is 25 full-color pages printed on high-quality glossy paper, saddle stitched, with a cover by Chad Hardin and a variant cover by Jemma M. Young. As we grow in funding, we will add content to book 4, including more guest art, extra side comics, and concept art.

Awwww, yeaaah! That completes chapter 5 of Temerity! Whoooo! I hope you enjoyed this chapter and learning more about the Temerity crew. Looks like Edith’s got a plan that surely couldn’t go wrong.

As of this point, the artists are currently working on the first 10 pages of the next chapter. They don’t have a set date on when they will complete them, but hopefully you’ll start seeing new content about mid-February. (Mid-March for free subscribers.)

I had been working on Eldair (Originally Eldar) for many years as a novel, slowly simmering and developing throughout my adolescence and into adulthood. I had lots of concept art I had drawn over the years as I developed the story and I felt it would be a fun story to tell visually.

I worked hard, drawing the first 16 pages as a comic book in a meticulous, realistic art nouveau style. It was good, but it wasn’t outstanding. And I wanted to create something outstanding. What would make this world seem bigger? What would make me stand out as a possible candidate for a concept artist position? Well, a concept art section, of course!

I compiled many of the development sketches I had done up to that point and created a few new ones to put into the back of the book. When it was completed, I was really proud of what I had completed.

What surprised me the most was when it was all done, is that it wasn’t the comic pages that caught the attention of the students, professors, and art directors, it was the concept art. It surprised me because this was back when anime and manga was not considered “real art,” so I thought for sure that people would prefer the realistic comic pages over my anime influenced concept art. So, when people gushed over my natural art style instead of what I thought people wanted, it was incredibly liberating! People liked my art the way it was!

This was the catalyst that turned Children of Eldair into a webcomic. I enjoyed the project so much that I decided to keep going with it. And over a decade later, here we are!

I thought I had lost the original files for this BFA project forever, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I randomly found them on an old flash drive last year! I wanted to share these concept pages with you so you can see how things have changed and developed over time—and see what has stayed the same!

(I’ll probably share the original comic pages as well, but that will be in a different post.)

Iva, Indri, and Embera

Designs for Iva, Indri, and Embera. These were not the first concept designs for these three girls, but the ones that I had in mind when I started the comic in 2011. The first time I drew these three was probably back in 2003 when I was in 7^th grade, but bizarrely, I don’t think their designs changed a whole lot over that time. They even kept their original names! (Though I debated a lot on Indri’s, but couldn’t come up with anything better so it stuck. Lol) However, their elvan elements did change as Iva was originally the element of earth, Indri was fire, and Embera was wind.

Sorcerers

I put a lot of thought into the sorcerer culture early on as Koe is the first character we’d see in the comic. Because we’d end up in a very long vision and not get back to the sorcerer culture for a long time, I wanted to make sure they had a strong visual language to differentiate themselves from the other races. Plus, I just had a lot of fun with this! I love all the many layers that they wear.

As much as I love those braids, I’m not sure I’ll have the patience to draw them when we get back to the present. They take FOREVER to draw. Haha! So we’ll see if that hairstyle survives to when we get back to the present.

Since drawing this, I’ve added quite a few more runes to the alphabet, and I’ve developed the magic system a bit more. But for the most part, this is actually pretty accurate to where the story stands currently. So accurate that I needed to spoiler shield some of Koe’s page!

What’s interesting about this though, is I actually wrote some general information about the world from the Sorcerer’s perspective. The idea that the sorcerer’s were the first creation, then changelings, humans, elves, and then fairies is Sorcerer lore, but not the actual history of the world. The first people to inhabit the world were sorcerers, but all the races (other than fairies) are just split off from them, much like races in our own world. Changeling’s are just sorcerers with dark skin and a different magic system. And elves are just sorcerers with long pointy ears, and humans are short with round ears. But I guess that doesn’t seem as magical and cool. XD

What can I say? I really enjoyed drawing Hallren’s nightmare. It’s not often I get to draw something so messy and gritty, and very emotionally driven!

Also. Happy new year! Last year I took a break from making goals as I was focusing on my health. But with us rolling into 2026, I’ve decided it’s time to start making goals again—especially with art! Yay! One of my goals is to complete a page of Eldair each week. I know some people like getting updates in bigger chunks, so I’m still deciding on how I want to post updates—whether it’s 1 page at a time like I used to, or save up and posting in bigger chunks. I’ll likely be sending out a poll on how readers would prefer to get updates in the near future. Either way, I should start updating a bit more consistently. :D

These pages were a lot of fun to work on! Sometimes I send these storyboards to the artist and I have to cross my fingers and hope that they’ll turn out good, and I really think that they did! I’m really grateful to work with such great artists :)

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a big impact.

While I was working on this chapter, I felt that something was missing. I really wanted Hallren and Victorious to have some sort of meaningful interaction, but I wasn’t sure what. Hallren doesn’t have a very solid father-figure in his life and I wanted to give Victorious a chance to step forward into that role for him. But their initial meeting was hard for me to nail down.

I kept running through different ideas as I kept working on pages until I finally hit the point of “If I’m gonna put this missing piece in, it’s gotta be now or never.” So I had to take a pause and really figure out what I wanted this scene to be and I eventually landed on this.

Another Kuna! She likes to just hang out in the dark all by herself.

December is here! I always like the Christmas season and I’ve already got my Christmas tree all set up (still working on the other decorations though.) This week is busy as I’ll be selling my art at Dragon Steel Nexus. I expect December will be busy with the holidays and family events, but I do hope to have time to sit by the fire and get some art done. My health has continued to improve with every passing week and I’m looking forward to a winter free of chronic depression and illness.

Sundogs, or parhelions, happen when the light refracts off of ice crystals in the air creating a halo. This rare phenomenon can happen on crisp, frigid days when the sun approaches the horizon.

It’s doubtful I’ll ever see a sundog, but I often find myself looking out my window and finding peace in the sky above me. While I don’t care for the inversions during the winter (which is caused by the natural geography of where I live) it does lead to some pretty fantastic sunsets. I often feel like the sky itself is the most beautiful canvas, always shifting from any moment of the day. We truly live in a beautiful world.

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a hot minute since I posted new Temerity pages. It’s been a weird few months. I’m going to start searching for a new line artist as my current artist has been rather unreliable and hasn’t been hitting deadlines that we’ve agreed to. So if you know anyone who would like to apply and send me their portfolio, I’d love to see them! It is a paid position.
